Tip 11 – Baby Steps for Creating Healthy Habits – Tempt the Taste Buds
A great step to healthy eating and a cornerstone of losing weight is to minimize the use of high saturated fats and salts. Waving “so long” to butter, doesn’t mean our food will lack taste. Try these Tempt the Taste Buds tips to add adventure to our nutrition:
- Olé for Olive Oil – Olive Oil is a great source of monounsaturated fats, antioxidants and phytonutrients. Equally important, it is delicious. Use it to sauté veggies, add flavor to brown rice, in lieu of salad dressing and more. Sesame oil is also a good option.
- Spice It Up – Adding even a teaspoon of herbs like basil, cilantro, turmeric, garlic and more add flavor and nutrition to your food without much in the way of calories. Add it to veggies, meats and whole grains.
- Sow Some Seeds – Don’t forget the seeds when adding flavor and nutrition to everyday foods like green beans, yogurt, salad, chicken breast – just about anything. Experiment with seeds to find which you like best, such as sesame, sunflower, fennel, and cumin.
- Nature’s Candy – Dried fruit, used sparingly, can be a phenomenal weight loss tool. It provides a big punch of natural sweetness by eating only a small amount. Use it to flavor yogurt, oatmeal, or as a snack with some nuts.
No need to have a fancy recipe to use these tasty tips. Just add a bit to whatever you are cooking, or put some in at the end. Good for you food can taste good, too!
